Head of Economics Ms Ellis discussed the economic impact of Covid in the UK with Year10 Athenaeum scholars last week. Ms Ellis unpacked the various measures for gauging inequality such as the Gini coefficient and took students through a detailed evidence based look at that economic impact.
The group discussed whether the pandemic brought with it a shared experience for the UK population as has been suggested. After review it was clear the experience of people during the pandemic differed considerably and the students discussed insightful perspectives on why this could have been the case.
Head of the Scholarship Programme and a Teacher of History, Mr Cavendish was interested in the possible use of the Gini coefficient on historic data, where the levels of social and economic inequality certainly weighed heavily in the causes of those upheavals.
