Mr Merrett, teacher of Biology for Eltham College has been participating in Movember since 2010 and this year is no different. He will be fundraising in support of Men’s health, Testicular cancer, Mental health and suicide prevention.
Mr Merrett says: ‘ I initially participated to show support for Men’s Health charities, but more actively since 2015 when I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. I had a relatively easy cancer experience, predominantly down to the fact I went to the doctor quickly and was willing to talk openly to friends and family about it. I am now passionate about encouraging young men in particular to seek help and speak out about their medical concerns – physical and emotional – because as a demographic there is still far too much of a taboo and “toxic masculinity” around talking.’
