In a fascinating session led by head of Psychology Mr Aaron Higginson about unravelling the unconscious, members of the Year 9 Athenaeum had their first foray into the world of Psychology.
Beginning with an exploration into the differences between the conscious and unconscious mind the students thought about what processes may be going on in their minds beyond those they are aware of? How might the unconscious mind be shaping their actions and are they being influenced by experiences they have never been consciously aware of? The discussion moved through Freud to the Rorschach ink blot test, with the students created their own blots. The session ends with some Karl Popper and ideas of falsifiability. Whatever may lie beneath there was an awful lot visible in this session.
