On Monday (19 June) the Eltham College Ski Racing team competed at the English Schools Ski Associations Indoor Ski Race in Castleford. It was great to be back racing indoors with some cold conditions inside Yorkshire SnoZone.

Sunday evenings training went well with most students familiarising themselves with the artificial snow rather than the dry slope we are used to. We honed in our skills and were feeling ready and prepared for race day. Our training paid off with some fantastic performances from the whole team, our under 15 B team, Henry (year 5), Elliott (year 5), Santi (year 6) and Mert (year 8), finished in 5th place an amazing result from the team competing against racers from year 7 to year 9. Closely in front was our under 15 A team, George (year 7), Harry (year 7), Isaac (year 7) and Arthur (year 8), who finished in 4th place, again beating out some teams with older and experienced racers.

Our most successful team of the day was our under 19A team, Alex (year 8), Tommy (year 10), Freddie (year 10) and Boden (year 10) who managed to secure 3rd place in their age category and overall for the male teams. They did excellently against students from year 10 to year 13 a massive achievement for those skiing up an age division. A special mention to Boden who not only placed in the team event but took home 2nd place in the under 19 individual category an incredible achievement for our experienced racer.

Overall, a fantastic race and we are thrilled to keep reporting our teams’ fantastic achievements, we are looking forward to the London Schools Ski Race this weekend where we hope to continue the success.

Well done again to all our racers.
