On Tuesday 27 June, Eltham College held its inaugural Book Festival. All of Year 7 were treated to a full day of talks and workshops, around the theme of reading.

We had four invited guests – Andy Briggs, author and Hollywood film scriptwriter, Sarah Mussi, author, Theresa Lola, poet, and our Gallery Manager Haf Anur, who did a talk on children’s illustration, whilst children’s book illustrator Anya Glazer took workshops on book cover illustrations.

Along with our Head of Creative Writing and author, Tom Mitchell, who also took author workshops, the year 7’s had a day of alternating between talks in the ABT, and workshops centred around Central Hall. This gave a central feel to the day, and the authors commented on how well organised they thought the day was, and how having everything centralised made them feel part of the day.

The Library was used as a Green Room for the authors in between their own events and workshops. The students enjoyed this exciting day, and this is something that we hope to continue into the future.
