Sixth Form Life

A vibrant and stimulating Sixth Form

Year 11 students moving into the Sixth Form are joined by between 30 to 40 new students to create a vibrant and stimulating mixed Sixth Form.

Sixth Formers have their own designated areas – The David Robins Sixth Form Space and the Pearson Sixth Form Study Centre – where they have access to computers, higher education materials and an informal work area, as well as facilities for refreshments and relaxation. Silent study can be pursued in a supervised section of the library and there are many opportunities to ‘take the lead’ either as Prefects, House Captains or through the College’s own Community Service programme or the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Sixth Form tutor groups are comprised of both Upper and Lower Sixth students. Both year groups have their own Head of Year. The Head of Upper Sixth and Head of Lower Sixth work with the Deputy Head who is responsible to the Headmaster for all sections of the School.

This team of teachers is responsible for the pastoral and academic well-being of their students and strive to ensure that close links are fostered between parents and the school. The way in which we structure the Senior School encourages a strong sense of identity within each form.

It is not just the teachers, chaplains, counsellor and nurses who are involved in pastoral care. We also provide a wide range of opportunities for our own students to take on roles of responsibility and to support one another.

Houses

A well-established House system runs in parallel to the form system. This allows for great inter-house camaraderie as students take part in regular and varied inter-house competitions ranging from: rugby, singing, drama, debating, and swimming; through to chess, photography and even an annual tug of war. This House system adds a further valuable layer of pastoral care for our students.

Student Leadership

Our Sixth Form prefects run a student council that meets regularly and discusses all aspects of school life and reports back and suggestion for improvements to the Deputy Head.
