Eltham College Students joined by Olympian at launch of Community Athletics Hub they helped fund

On Wednesday 9 October, we celebrated the launch of the Personal Best Community Athletics Hub at Grove Park and also the incredible efforts of Eltham College students, who raised an impressive £8,250 to make the project a reality.

In an extraordinary feat of endurance and teamwork, the students ran a 680-mile relay from Paris to St Andrew’s, Scotland, earlier this year, to mark the centenary of the Paris 1924 Olympic gold won by former Eltham College pupil, Eric Liddell, whose story inspired the film ‘Chariots of Fire’ while raising money for charity.  Read more about it here.

The funds raised by our students directly support the Personal Best Foundation’s mission to provide free athletics access to children in underserved communities. Their relay marks not only a personal achievement but also a significant contribution to the health and confidence of children in Lewisham and beyond.

Olympian Alex Haydock-Wilson, who won two bronze medals in Paris this summer, attended the launch alongside our fund-raising students.
