This year we had a significant number of new pupils joining the Eltham fencing club and after few months of hard work and dedication, signed up for the first competition.
The first competition was Newham competition on 4th February. We had a great number of fencers signed up from Junior and Senior school and it was clear that progress was being made.
Vivienne-Leigh Peter, Asad Zohidov and Ali Guney were at their first competition and they did fantastically well with Lukai Geng demonstrating great progress from the beginning of the year.
Next competition was Leon Paul Junior Series where we had some outstanding results. This was our first time at this competition in North London, three students placed in the top 8 at this competition.
On 14th,15th,16th March we had the Public Schools Competition where we participated in all the weapons: Foil, Epee and Sabre. At this classic event all our fencers worked hard with Vivienne-Leigh Peter ranking the highest from Eltham across the three days.
It was a great achievement and our fencers fought hard in all the weapons during the three days of the competition.
Our best competition was on 11th June, Kent Competition where our fencers demonstrated that they trained hard during the year and we managed to come back with 6 medals with Lukai Geng gaining silver amongst 5 other bronze.
The final competition of the year was on 1st July at the Newham competition where we had 8 fencers signed up and once again they competed really well.
Next year we are planning to participate in all 5 series of the Newham Competition,
4 series of Leon Paul Junior, Kent competition and the Public Schools Competition. We will be preparing some strong fencers to participate at the National Youth Championship and the future looks bright for Eltham Fencing.
