On Friday 22nd September 2023, Dr Buckley from Victoria University, Wellington NZ visited the College to give a talk to our A-Level Physicists and Year 10 Athenaeum scholars on High Temperature Superconductors.
The insightful talk focussed on the developments in superconductors over the past 100 years, how they work and on his research on finding new alloys that allow for zero resistance to direct currents at higher and higher temperatures.
The talk finished with Dr Buckley sharing details from earlier in his career, including devising experiments to calculate the light transmission through sea ice in the Antarctic where he spent some time conducting his research.
