On March 12 the Aeroswift Racing team made the long trip to the Magna Science Centre in Rotherham (a former steelworks) for the F1 in Schools national finals after qualifying 3rd out of 34 in the regional finals.

The event took place over two days seeing the best teams from the UK face each other across five different categories: Design & Engineering, Commercial Enterprise, Pit Display, Verbal Presentation and of course Racing. The event saw months of hard work accumulate as over 50 schools did their best to impress industry leaders and judges.

The first day started off with the team presenting their pit area and brand. The six students from Year 10 then went on to their verbal presentation, racing, and presenting Design and Enterprise portfolios. Whilst they didn’t win any of the prizes, finishing mid-table on our first attempt and attendance at the Nationals with 60 teams competing, from 23 Regional competitions, is an amazing achievement.

The F1 in Schools National Finals is an amazing experience and a real step up from the regional finals. Team captain Nathan said “We would like to thank Formula 1 in Schools for putting on this fantastic competition and also our sponsors Eltham College, Dave Cooling & Associates Limited, Judge & Priestley, Quintas Energy and Randy’s Wing Bar. Without their help none of this would have been possible.”
