A Week of Trips: Art, Politics, Geography
This week, several of our students took part in exciting trips. Our talented Sixth Form art students visited two of London’s most iconic galleries. The work of Tracey Emin never fails to have an impact on the viewer and her powerful exhibition at the White Cube Bermondsey did just that. The students explored the rooms of the gallery taking in Emin’s expressive painting style, bold use of colour and personal inclusion of text, commenting on the visceral nature of the work. Heading next to the South Bank, our artists viewed the Tate Modern’s blockbuster exhibition, ‘Expressionists: Kandinsky, Münter and The Blue Rider’, as well as a immersive show by Athony McCall entitled ‘Solid Light’. The Tate’s permanent collection did not disappoint and our sixth form artists were able to gather a huge amount of inspiration to take back to school.
Meanwhile, our Lower Sixth Politics students had an insightful day in Westminster, where they toured both Parliament and the UK Supreme Court. During the visit, they gained first-hand experience of how these institutions operate, deepening their understanding of the UK’s political and legal systems. The visit provided invaluable context for their studies, offering a real-world perspective on political processes and the judiciary.
Over at the Olympic Park, Year 9 students went on a Geography trip, battling wind and rain as they evaluated the success of rebranding efforts. Despite the weather, their enthusiasm never dwindled as they conducted primary research into reimaging, renewal and redevelopment. Their investigation focused on how these strategies have transformed the area and what lessons can be applied to other urban projects.
