Chess Team News
On Sunday our Eltham College Chess team travelled to Eton College to play in the National Schools Rapidplay, playing five matches over the day.
Our A Team (James, Yash, Roxolana, Florian, Cyrus, Gaurav) played some excellent chess including a close victory against our hosts. Going into the last round a big win would have secured a podium position. However, it wasn’t quite to be and we had to settle finishing 7th out of 36 teams.
Our B team (Victor, Kaiden, Isabelle, Nivaj, Louka, Jonny) played valiantly, frequently against higher rated opponents and finished with a very creditable with one win and two draws from their five matches.
Overall it was an amazing commitment from the squad, even more so when I found out that two of them were celebrating their birthday on the day of the competition!
