2024 Concerto Competition
Our annual Concerto Competition, which offers students the chance to perform in front of a live audience and an external adjudicator, took place this year with the highest number of entries in recent years. Students competed for an invitation to perform a solo concerto movement with Eltham College’s Symphony Orchestra at Blackheath Halls in March.
Previous performances have included Vaughan-Williams’ The Lark Ascending and Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto. This year, Liam from Year 12 (trumpet, performing Arutunian’s Trumpet Concerto) and Zac from Year 13 (piano, performing the first movement of Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F) were highly commended for their performances.
The winners of this year’s competition are:
- Phoenix from Year 12 (piano), performing the first movement of Saint-Saëns’ 2nd Piano Concerto
- Michelle from Year 11 (voice), performing the first song from Ravel’s Shéhérazade
- Aaron from Year 9 (piano), performing Bach’s Toccata in D Major
The competition was adjudicated by Paul Harris, who praised the exceptional standard of all the performances. We look forward to hearing our talented musicians perform at Blackheath Halls in March.
