Black Cultural Celebration Week at the Junior School

This week, the Junior School celebrated Black Cultural Celebration Week with a range of engaging activities to help our pupils learn about and celebrate Black history.

Pupils explored the lives of influential Black figures in biography club and discussed the works of important Black poets in poetry club. Zumba in the playground was incredibly popular, with even the Head of Junior School, Mr Lock, joining in the fun.

At the Black History Film Club, they explored The Princess and the Frog, highlighting the significance of Disney’s first Black princess, Tiana. Additionally, pupils took part in colouring posters of figures like Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali, and enjoyed a gospel singing session in the Chapel.

Throughout the week, pupils enjoyed special themed lunches featuring dishes like Jambalaya, Jerk Chicken, Maniçoba, and Nigerian Chin Chin, which helped create an atmosphere of pride and connection, celebrating the richness of Black culture across the school.
