Eltham College U12A Girls Hockey Success

On Wednesday 4th December, we had a fantastic morning of girls hockey down at the hockey centre where Eltham College hosted the London Schools Tier 1 & 2 Qualifiers.

Our U12A team made history by entering the Tier 1 competition for the first time since introducing girls into Year 7 in 2020. The team won both matches against Emanuel and Alleyn’s 2-1 with goals from Slack x2, Janakan and Potter E. This means they qualify for the Tier 1 London Finals on 13th March placing them in the top 8 best hockey schools in London. With just one more match to go against Forest School this Saturday the U12A have won 9, drawn 3 and lost just 3, scoring 58 goals in the Michaelmas Term.

Equally as impressive the U12B team qualified for the Tier 2 finals on the same date by finishing runners up. They beat Alleyn’s C, Emanuel B, drew to Colfe’s A and lost to Alleyn’s B. All previous girls hockey A teams have played in the Tier 2 competition so certainly shows the depth of talent in this year group and the progress hockey is making at the school.

Jamie Batten, Head of Hockey, says “I am absolutely thrilled with our Year 7 Girls’ hockey success in their respective London tournaments this week. The group have worked tremendously hard across the season, whether that be at before school indoor sessions, Co-Curricular or Games sessions and thoroughly deserve their success this week. It is wonderful to see both teams progressing to the Regional finals, coupled with the school’s first Tier 1 success. This demonstrates the quality and depth that we have at this year group and demonstrates the superb foundation this year group can build on. We are really excited to see how they continue to develop as they move through the programme and look forward to watching them in action in March’s Regional Finals.”
