Eltham College Hosts Geographical Association Quiz

On Monday 27 January, Eltham College hosted the Geographical Association’s online quiz for schools across southeast, central, and east London. The Geographical Association is the UK’s leading organisation supporting geographical education, and this annual event is designed to encourage a love of the world’s incredible human, physical, and environmental geographies.

This year’s quiz saw fantastic participation, with 14 schools, both state and independent, entering 80 teams and totalling over 230 students. Eltham College itself had 12 teams, involving 36 students from Years 7 to 10.

The competition was fierce, with Langley Park School for Boys securing the top spot for the third consecutive year. Eltham College’s own Year 9 team – Aaron, Nathan, and Aurelius – came a very close second, missing first place by just one point in the final round. Latymer Upper and Dunottar schools tied for third place. Special mention must also go to Matthew, Matvey, and Gaurav in Year 9 for their strong performance.

The quiz included some challenging rounds, with Geography in the News and Capital Cities proving particularly tough. While hosting the quiz from the Geography Office, Mrs Mollison could hear the buzz of excitement from Room 10 as students worked together to tackle the questions.

Having hosted this event at her previous schools for the past two years, Mrs Mollison was delighted to see it continue to grow in both participation and enthusiasm at Eltham College. The Geography Department is proud to have the Geographical Association’s Secondary Geography Quality Mark, and events like this demonstrate the department’s dedication to providing co-curricular opportunities that promote a love for the subject.

Well done to all teams and a special thank you to Miss Franklin and Mr Chesterton from the Geography Department for organising the students and ensuring the answers were marked at record speed. We look forward to hosting the quiz again next year!
