Eltham College Debaters Compete in Frankly Speaking 2025
Congratulations to two of our students, Barney (Year 10) and Ellis (Year 11), who performed superbly as they represented Eltham College in the Frankly Speaking 2025 Debate Competition at the United States Embassy in London on Thursday 6th February.
Frankly Speaking is a prestigious annual debating competition that has welcomed over 650 secondary school students since its inception in 2010. The competition has grown beyond London, now attracting schools from Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford, and Coventry.
Barney and Ellis spoke brilliantly in the semi-finals but unfortunately didn’t break to the grand final on this occasion. Well done to both on their excellent performances.
Looking ahead, four Eltham College teams will be taking part in the International Competition for Young Debaters (South London Heat) next Saturday. The ICYD is the world’s largest BP format junior debating competition and offers a unique opportunity for students in Year 10 and below to participate in high-level debates against their peers from all around the world. We wish our teams the very best of luck.
