Upper Sixth Linguists Present Their Independent Research
This Monday marked the start of an inspiring series of talks by our Upper Sixth linguists for the Modern and Classical Languages Society. The talks covered their chosen Independent Research Project (IRP) topics, a key stage in their preparation for the upcoming A-Level speaking examinations. Presenting their topics provided the opportunity for students to showcase their depth of research, critical analysis, and linguistic proficiency.
The breadth of topics explored was remarkable, reflecting both the intellectual curiosity and global awareness of our students. From the sustainability of nuclear energy in France to ecological conservation in Costa Rica, each presentation opened up thought-provoking discussions on contemporary issues. One student delved into the political legacy of Thomas Sankara, the former president of Burkina Faso, examining his revolutionary policies and enduring influence on West African politics. Another offered an insightful analysis of ETA’s struggle for Basque independence, shedding light on the complex historical and cultural dimensions of the movement.
The series continues over the next two Mondays, promising yet more engaging and sophisticated explorations of the world through language. As ever, we are immensely proud of our linguists, whose dedication and enthusiasm exemplify the spirit of academic inquiry at the heart of our school community.
