A Captivating Tale of Love and Fate: Dido and Aeneas Enchants Eltham College

Thursday evening marked an historic first for Eltham College as we staged Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, our very first opera, in a joint Music and Drama Department production.

The on-stage chamber orchestra, featuring several of our accomplished string scholars, performed with unwavering precision, maintaining a remarkable intensity throughout the 50-minute score.  Meanwhile, our vocalists delivered performances well beyond their years, demonstrating both technical prowess and emotional depth. The performance of Year 11 Michelle, as Dido, was a particular highlight, and we look forward to following her developing opera career in the years to come.

The production set a new benchmark for musical and theatrical excellence at Eltham College and we eagerly anticipate many more ventures into the world of opera in the future.
