Students Bring Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors to Life

This week, Sixth Form and Year 11 students are performing The Comedy of Errors in a lively and contemporary staging of Shakespeare’s farcical classic.

First performed in 1594 as part of Christmas festivities for the legal profession, the play has long been celebrated for its light-hearted tone and fast-paced humour. Often compared to a pantomime, it is affectionately known as Shakespeare’s most comedic work.

This production sets the story on a modern Greek tourist island. The timeless theme of mistaken identity and chaotic misunderstandings is brought to life through vibrant language, physical comedy and bold characterisation.

The cast have done an incredible job interpreting the characters and the text, bringing the play hurtling into 2025 and proving that Shakespeare is accessible for all.

“Shakespearean comedy is one of the hardest things to pull off, even for the most seasoned actors,” said the play’s director, Miss Kendrick. “Our students tackled The Comedy of Errors with professionalism, ambition and verve, capturing the kinetic energy of the play and keeping the audience gripped. All involved should be incredibly proud.”
