Shakespearean Tragedy

Mr Chris Cook Head of English delivered a fascinating session on the nature of Shakespearean Tragedy to members of the Year 11 Colloquium, in their final session of the year.

Students focussed in small groups on two soliloquies, one from Macbeth and the other Romeo and Juliet. They examined the structure of the speeches as well as the use of language and imagery. Many interesting comparisons were made by the students not only about aspects such as rhythm and assonance, but also the themes of fate/destiny and the role of the supernatural.

This session as said, completed the programme for the Year 11 group and in the spirit of their meetings over the year, the ability to make connections within and across subjects remains paramount.
