Year 6 Visit the Gerald Moore Gallery – Alaria Exhibition and Art Workshop

This week, Year 6 heads to the Gerald Moore Gallery to take part in an exciting and immersive art experience. Each visit begins with a 15-minute guided tour of the gallery’s current exhibition, Alaria. Leading the tour is Miriam, the gallery’s Artist-in-Residence and one of the featured artists in the show. Miriam introduces students to the exhibition’s themes, which are rooted in our relationship with nature.

After the tour, students take part in a hands-on creative workshop. Using natural materials from the Sculpture Garden, along with wooden beads and coloured threads, they create their own personal amulets. The activity encourages exploration of sculptural techniques such as knotting and combining different materials.

Inspired by Alaria’s exploration of nature and human connection, the workshop invites Year 6 students to reflect on their own experiences with the natural world and their relationship with it.
