EPQ Presentation and Celebration Evening at Eltham College

This week, Eltham College hosted its EPQ Presentation and Celebration Evening, a highlight in the academic calendar that showcases the intellectual curiosity and independence of its Sixth Form students.

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), equivalent to half an A Level, challenges students to conduct in-depth research on a topic of their choice. Each project requires a Production Log, a detailed written report, and a formal presentation.

The evening featured an impressive array of presentations across a broad spectrum of disciplines, reflecting both scholarly discipline and individual passion. Topics ranged from art history and gender politics—such as “Male decisions on female positions: how has use of the pudica pose interacted with a patriarchal representation of women in art?”—to ethical and legal debates like “Does prosecuting victimless crimes protect society or invalidate personal freedom?”

Scientific and environmental themes were also well represented. One student asked, “Are EVs the solution to decarbonisation of road transport in the UK?” while another explored “Evaluating the impact of carbon-plated running shoes on athletic performance.”

From art to politics, science to social issues, and historical investigation, the evening highlighted the breadth of interests and depth of inquiry undertaken by Eltham College students.
