GCSE Geographers Enjoy a Fantastic Fieldtrip to the River Darent

On Monday 23rd June 2025, 65 enthusiastic GCSE Geography students headed to the River Darent in Kent for a hands-on fieldwork experience. The trip was well timed to align with the Geographical Association’s National Festival of Fieldwork – a celebration of the value of outdoor education in bringing Geography to life, supporting the development of enquiry skills, as well as building a stronger connection to the wonderful countryside of Kent that we have within a 30-minute drive of our school.

Visiting three sites – Shoreham, Farningham, and Horton Kirby – the students used equipment such as clinometers, callipers, and flowmeters to collect data in preparation for their iGCSE fieldwork exams. The day was filled with teamwork, clear communication, and precise use of equipment, topped off with a ‘dog biscuit velocity challenge’ that brought out the students’ competitive spirit. Sunshine, good company, ice creams, and a few soggy socks (and wellies!) made it a memorable outing. Well done to all the students for their hard work and to all the staff who joined us on the trip.
