Teaching Insight Programme: Amina Finds Inspiration at Eltham College
From Monday 16 to Thursday 19 June 2025, Eltham College welcomed participants to its Teaching Insight Programme. Launched in 2022, the scheme is aimed at university students and graduates from underrepresented backgrounds. It is designed to offer them a small glimpse into the inner workings of the desirable and yet frequently obscured profession of teaching.
As the scheme drew to a close, we had the opportunity to speak with one of the entrants to gain a better sense of its scope and impact:
“What in your upbringing made you want to get into teaching?”
This was one of the first questions our Communications Team asked Amina.
Amina is one of four prospective teachers who have been selected to participate in Eltham College’s Teaching Insight Programme.
“I think education is the most important thing a person can have,” Amina responded, reflecting on her past few days at Eltham. From shadowing teachers and observing classes to speaking with students and uncovering their unique interests and passions, she was elated to rediscover everything that originally inspired her to get into teaching.
“Fresh” and “insightful” are two of the words Amina used to describe the programme, when we met her outside of the College’s auditorium on a hot summer’s day. She spoke fondly of the eager and motivated student body, dedicated teachers, and impressive estate and resources of Eltham.
Then, the University of Manchester student left to prepare for the first official lesson she would teach, which would bring her experience on the programme to a close.
