Lower Sixth German Students Win Interschool Multilingual Debate Competition

On Tuesday, our Lower Sixth German students Arthur N., James, and Arthur W., travelled to Bexley Grammar School to take part in an interschool KS5 multilingual debate competition. The motion for debate was “University is still worth it,” and teams competed in a variety of languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin, Russian, and Japanese.

Each team was required to take part in two debates, arguing both for and against the motion. Our students first argued in favour of the motion against a team from Bexley Grammar School, followed by a debate against the motion with Dartford Grammar School. Debates were assessed on content, language use, and debating skills.

The judges were particularly impressed by our boys’ teamwork, fluency, and the breadth of their arguments. We are delighted to share that they won both of their debates with an impressive score of 51 out of 60, narrowly surpassing Bexley Grammar School’s 49, earning them first place in the German category of the competition.

Many congratulations to Arthur N., Arthur W., and James on this excellent achievement.
