ECCO 2025: A Night at the Movies

If other concerts at Eltham showcase the music here is high-level, ECCO showcases that it is also fun. This event has grown hugely in the last few years, with a single aim – celebrate the amazing, wide-ranging, vibrant musical tradition that flourishes here. The whole remit of music at Eltham was on show in an event that lasted nearly seven hours.

A chamber music recital in the Quad kicked off the day, followed by performances by a number of pupil-led rock bands on the Rock Stage, then a full hour of jazz on the Jazz Stage. Afterwards, the marquee was officially opened ahead of the Marquee Concert.

The theme of this year’s evening concert was A Night at the Movies, so all the music performed was from films. Eltham Brass, Sinfonia, Young Voices, College Choir (accompanied by the on-stage band), Concert Band, and the Eltham College Community Orchestra all took to the stage. ECCO itself numbered almost 70, with our Symphony Orchestra joined by a large number of parents, staff, and former pupils; the combined sound was truly impressive.

The evening finished, as is tradition, with Jerusalem and I Vow to Thee My Country. To have seven hours of music across four stages is quite something — and that’s before even mentioning the ice cream van, popcorn machine, or table decoration competition (now in its third year).

Bring on next year’s event (and keep your eyes and ear peeled for the new name…)
