Eltham Scholars Visit Bletchley Park, Cambridge and Oxford

Written by Anya (Year 11)

The academic scholars at Eltham enjoyed participating in three separate day trips: to Bletchley Park, Cambridge, and Oxford. The students who visited Bletchley engaged in challenging code-breaking problems while learning about ciphers and machines developed during the Second World War, such as the Lorenz machine. They were also able to explore different areas of the site, each of which held significant historical relevance.

At Cambridge, students visited the Fitzwilliam and Zoology Museums, discovering breathtaking paintings and remarkable creatures, as well as observing the colleges and activities in the area. The final trip to Oxford coincided with an open day, allowing the students to attend taster lectures and tour departments, thereby gaining valuable insight into university life and education. They also visited the many beautiful colleges in the area and the Ashmolean Museum, which houses hundreds of fascinating artefacts.

Overall, the three trips enhanced the students’ knowledge of both history and their future academic opportunities.
