Annual Concerto Competition Showcases Exceptional Talent
On Wednesday evening, the Music Department hosted its annual Concerto Competition in Central Hall. Ten pupils put themselves forward this year, competing for the chance to win an invitation to perform a concerto movement with the school’s Symphony Orchestra at Blackheath Halls in March. The standard of performance was exceptionally high, with concerto movements by Bruch, Arutunian, Kabalevsky and Elgar amongst an incredibly high-level programme. The competition was adjudicated by Mr Christopher Redfern, Director of Music at St Margaret’s School in North London; he was deeply impressed by the standard of performance, particularly that it was delivered by musicians from Year 13 down to Year 7. Huge congratulations to Liam and George, both in Year 13, for winning this year’s competition – we very much look forward to their concerto performances next term.
