Old Elthamian Andrew Hughes Returns for Fascinating Careers Talk

We were delighted to welcome Old Elthamian Andrew Hughes back to Eltham College for a well-attended and inspiring career talk.

Andrew, who now works as a Propulsion Systems Engineer at Thales Alenia Space, shared his journey into the aerospace industry from choosing his A Level subjects at Eltham, to studying engineering at Cambridge, and securing a series of internships that helped shape his career path. His talk offered valuable insights into how students can navigate their own academic and professional journeys, with practical advice on university applications and internship opportunities.

Since joining Thales Alenia Space in 2021, Andrew has been part of the ESPRIT-Gateway team, working on the development of a communications and refuelling module for the Lunar Gateway orbital outpost, a key component of future lunar missions.

We’re incredibly grateful to Andrew for returning to Eltham and sharing his expertise. His visit gave students a fascinating glimpse into the future of space technology and how they, too, can be part of it.
