Year 7 Geographers Explore the High Street

This week, our Year 7 Geography students took their learning beyond the classroom with a trip to Mottingham high street during their lessons. As part of their topic on the theme of 20-minute neighbourhoods, they investigated how well the local area meets the needs of its community within a short walk or cycle.
Armed with their worksheets and enthusiasm they headed out to collect a range of primary data collection methods to explore the area. They conducted questionnaires with local residents, with some completing as many as five during the lesson, and gathered information about land use, inclusivity, transport links, and diversity.
To deepen their understanding, students will also be using their devices to collect secondary data—researching house prices and travel times. They will bring their findings together by creating charts to present their results and reflect on the extent to which Mottingham has the characteristics of a 20-minute neighbourhood.
