Lest We Forget: Eltham College Remembrance Service

The Eltham College community came together on Tuesday 11 November for a poignant Remembrance Service to honour those who have given their lives in defence of our country.

Students from Years 11 to 13 gathered in the Chapel for a service led by our Chaplain, Rev Houghton, while the rest of the school joined via livestream. We were privileged to welcome Lance Corporal Bryson, who shared powerful insights from his time serving in the Middle East. “Medals are great, stories are great,” he said, “but knowing you’re protecting those at home is what matters.”

Following the service, the entire school assembled in the Garden of Remembrance, where wreaths were laid and two minutes’ silence observed. This tranquil space offered a moment for quiet reflection and collective tribute, allowing all members of the community to pause and remember.

Our thanks to Lance Corporal Bryson, to our choir, musicians and readers, and to the Year 9 students whose sea of wonderful poppies – fashioned in DT lessons – dressed the Garden with such arresting and meaningful symbolism.
