Year 4 Master the Roman “Tortoise” Formation

Year 4 took their history lesson outdoors last week, stepping back in time to ancient Rome to master the famous Roman “tortoise” formation. Equipped with shields they had carefully designed and crafted themselves, pupils split into form groups and practised moving in and out of the defensive formation to repel attacks from imaginary barbarians.

As they raced to see who could get into formation the fastest, a few passing Sixth Form students stopped to watch. Reminiscing about doing the same activity in Year 4, they were quick to praise the craftsmanship of the shields, admitting they couldn’t remember theirs looking quite so impressive!
