English Students Enjoy Twelfth Night at the Barbican

Sixth Form English students enjoyed an excellent production of Twelfth Night at the Barbican Theatre.

The staging was spectacular, featuring a giant organ that characters used as a climbing frame, inventive costume design, and striking special effects, which included a character manipulating spotlight widths by hand.

The performance blended Shakespeare’s original text with witty modern asides and cleverly choreographed slapstick, making the play both accessible and entertaining. Musical interludes added to the festive atmosphere, with traditional songs interwoven with contemporary music and live accompaniment on organ and piano.

The standout moment however was Malvolio’s unforgettable descent down a fireman’s pole in bright yellow stockings and crossed garters – a scene students agreed they won’t forget anytime soon!
