Eltham College Junior School at BETT

This week, the Junior School were delighted to attend and present at BETT, one of the world’s leading education and technology events. BETT brings together schools, educators and education specialists from across the globe to share best practice and explore how technology can support excellent teaching and learning.

As part of this invitation, Daniel Taylor, Digital Learning and Innovation Lead, was asked to showcase how digital tools were being used meaningfully to enhance everyday learning. Rather than focusing on technology itself, the presentation centred on pupil and staff voice, sharing real stories of how learning felt in the classroom and how children’s confidence, independence and thinking had developed over the short time since our 1:1 device rollout.

A key feature of the presentation was a short video created with pupils and staff, combining student voice and classroom learning. This reflects the school’s belief that learning should be creative, purposeful and rooted in the experiences of children. The presentation highlights how, as part of our balanced digital learning strategy, these tools can help strengthen ownership of learning, reflection and resilience, while supporting already embedded, good teaching practices and remaining firmly grounded in the Junior School ethos.

As you will see, the children played a central role in the presentation. Their voices, ideas and work formed the heart of the story being shared, with pupils reflecting honestly on how they learn, how they approach mistakes and how they organise their thinking. We are incredibly proud with the way they were able to articulate their feelings, represent the school and celebrate their growing confidence and autonomy.

The school is delighted to see that the work taking place at Eltham College Junior School has been recognised on an international stage. Most importantly, this opportunity reflected the school’s ongoing commitment to thoughtful, age appropriate learning that places children, not technology, at the heart of everything we do.
