Exploring Degree Apprenticeships: A Talk by Mia Delamain (OE 2024)

We were thrilled to welcome Mia Delamain (OE 2024) back to Eltham College during National Apprenticeship Week. Mia returned to speak with Year 11 students as part of the wellbeing and careers programme, as well as delivering a lunchtime session for Sixth Form students.

After leaving us in 2024 to study Geography and Spanish at the University of Exeter—where she achieved a First in her first year—Mia chose to follow a different path and take up a degree apprenticeship with Amazon. She is now enrolled on Amazon’s Business-to-Business Sales Degree Apprenticeship, combining university study with hands-on professional experience.

During her talks, Mia gave students an honest and engaging insight into her day-to-day role and how she structures her week to balance professional responsibilities with the academic demands of her degree. She also shared how she approached finding and applying for apprenticeships, offering practical advice about researching opportunities and navigating what can be a highly competitive process. Her message was clear: apply widely and pursue the options that genuinely interest you.

Mia’s reflections on managing workplace expectations alongside academic study provided a realistic and inspiring perspective on alternative routes after school, leaving students with a clearer understanding of what a degree apprenticeship can offer—and the confidence to explore their own pathways.
