Celebrating World Book Day Across the Junior School
Thursday 5 March saw everyone in the Junior School dressed up as their favourite characters from books as pupils and staff celebrated World Book Day. The day was filled with activities designed to bring stories off the page and into the classroom.
Everyone took part in a cat competition, which invited pupils to design their own original cat character inspired by a literary genre. Pupils then brought their creations to life by animating them using FlipaClip.
Pupils also enjoyed a special visit from author Jane Lightbourne, who spoke about her journey from working as a barrister to writing fiction for children and adults. She shared the inspiration behind her popular books A Tale of Three Tabbies and My Cat Called Red, encouraging pupils to follow their creativity and find stories in the world around them.
Year groups also participated in a special project linked to storytelling:
- Year 4 created exciting movie trailers for their favourite books, learning how to present stories in a cinematic style.
- Year 5 became narrators as they recorded audiobooks for Year 3.
- Year 6 explored the world of film music by composing original soundtracks for their favourite books using GarageBand.
Thank you to all pupils and staff who took part and made this World Book Day so memorable!
