Choral and Orchestral Concert Returns to Blackheath Halls

The annual Choral and Orchestral Concert returned to Blackheath Halls for an evening of music-making, bringing together the Symphony Orchestra, Choral Society, College Choir and the Blackheath Prep Chamber Choir. In total, 135 singers took part, alongside a full orchestra, in a programme that ran for around two hours.

The College Choir was joined by the Choral Society, made up of staff, parents and friends of the school. The programme opened with two concerto movements performed by Liam and George (Upper Sixth).

Alongside these, the Symphony Orchestra performed Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, one of the central works of the evening.

The overall standard of playing from the orchestra was exceptionally high. As Director of Music Mr Johns commented: “This is the best that I have ever heard our Symphony Orchestra play, and I can’t think that there are many school orchestras that would perform such a sophisticated, and extended, programme so well.”

The concert was another example of the scale and ambition of music at the school, bringing together pupils from Eltham College and Blackheath prep and the wider school community in a shared performance.

Thank you to all those who performed and to everyone who came to support the concert.
