Eltham College Drama Launches First Scratch Night
Eltham College Drama held its first-ever Scratch Night this year, featuring twelve student-led productions. The event provided an opportunity for students in Years 10, 11 and 12, including scholars, exam candidates and LAMDA students, to present an inspiring programme of student-led work.
Director of Drama, Mr Marshall, described the evening as “exploratory and brave, showcasing just a few snapshots of the excellent work being produced this year.” The idea for Scratch Night grew from a wish to broaden what drama can look like at the school and to give students more freedom to test out new approaches.
Some pieces were entirely written and devised by students, while others reworked established texts. One production, for example, took on The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) by The Reduced Shakespeare Company.
The night highlighted a range of ideas and approaches, marking a new addition to the school’s drama calendar.
