Eltham Girls Crowned Chess Champions
As the Easter holidays began, two Eltham College teams travelled to Surrey to compete in the English Chess Federation (ECF) National Girls’ Team Finals.
Hosted at St Catherine’s School in Bramley, the finals brought together school teams from across the country.
Eltham’s Under 11 team — Amelia (Year 6), Louise (Year 4) and Sofiia (Year 5) — delivered an outstanding performance. They played superbly, winning all seven of their matches, and were crowned national champions for the second time in three years, with a score of 17 points from a possible 21.
The Under 19 team, comprising Amber (Year 7), Isabelle (Year 8) and Roxolana (Year 12) also put in an impressive showing in a highly competitive field. After a long weekend involving nine matches, the team finished in an excellent third place.
For Amelia and Amber, the weekend marked a particularly special milestone — both students have now won trophies at this national event for three consecutive years, having been part of the Under 11 team that won the title in 2024 and finished second in 2025.
