Exploring Anatomy and Ethics in the Biology Lab

The Year 7 Scholars recently observed a rat dissection conducted in the Biology Lab by their teacher, Mr Merrett. The process projected on a screen, allowing the class to follow each stage closely. With considerable skill, Mr Merrett carefully uncovered the various organs, enabling the students to examine them in detail and discuss their functions, drawing comparisons with human systems.

The session also prompted discussion about the use of animals in scientific study, including how and why some animals are used for such dissections and under what conditions. Mr Cavendish extended the conversation further, encouraging students to reflect on broader ethical considerations surrounding the treatment of animals.

Overall, it was an engaging and most informative experience from which the scholars learned a great deal.
