From Theme Park Action to Escargots: Year 6 Enjoy a Taste of Life in France
The trip began with an early start and a journey through the Channel Tunnel. Any tiredness quickly disappeared on arrival in Boulogne-sur-Mer, where pupils visited Nausicaá Aquarium and were fascinated by the incredible variety of marine life on display.
Day two took them to the seaside town of Berck, where they began the morning with a visit to a family-run sweet shop, discovering how traditional bonbons are made. With the sun shining, they then headed to the beach to enjoy games of football and spend time relaxing with friends. In the afternoon, the group visited the Ulster Tower and the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial, two of the most significant and poignant World War I sites on the Somme battlefield.
A real highlight of the week was the much-anticipated visit to Bagatelle Theme Park. With a near-exclusive run of the park, excitement levels were high as pupils enjoyed a wide range of rides and attractions, including the ever-popular River Splash, which left everyone thoroughly soaked. To make the day even more special, the group celebrated Tom’s birthday with some cake.
The following day saw pupils putting their French speaking skills to the test at the bustling Le Touquet market, followed by a visit to a French supermarket. Back at the château, the final evening meal gave everyone the opportunity to sample a classic French delicacy: escargots.
On their final day, pupils visited a snail farm, where they learned facts about these unusual creatures and even developed a newfound appreciation for them, sparking talk of a future “Snail Appreciation Club”!
Thank you to all the pupils for making the trip so memorable, and to the staff who made it possible.
