Year 5 Students Get a Taste of Senior School Chemistry
As part of their transition programme, Year 5 pupils visited the College’s Science Department this week to experience the Senior School’s laboratory facilities and gain an insight into what they’ll be learning about in Chemistry next year.
During the session, students worked through a practical investigation, gaining hands-on experience with a range of chemicals and observing how different substances react when combined. Pupils carefully recorded their observations and compared the effects of various reactants.
The activity introduced students to a variety of substances, including hydrochloric acid, vinegar, sodium carbonate solution, ethanol, metal salts, distilled water, bicarbonate of soda and calcium chloride solution, allowing them to explore a range of chemical reactions in a safe and supervised environment.
They also got to witness a demonstration of the Bunsen burners by Head of Chemistry Dr Everard-Pennell.
