EL102 Peace Relay: Students Complete Inspiring Berlin–The Hague Challenge
A group of our students has successfully completed the EL102 Berlin–The Hague Peace Relay, an extraordinary endurance challenge combining sport with a powerful message of unity and international understanding.
Inspired by the legacy of Eric Liddell, the relay traced a symbolic route from the historic 1936 Olympic sites in Berlin to The Hague, a globally recognised centre for peace and justice. Throughout the journey, students embodied the values of resilience, character, and service that underpin both the event and Liddell’s enduring example.
The challenge began in Berlin, where on Day 1 the team covered an impressive 30km from the Brandenburg Gate to Elstal via the Olympic Stadium. Despite facing a mix of intense sunshine and torrential rain, the group showed outstanding determination and teamwork.
Following a night on a sleeper train — with limited opportunity for rest — the students continued their efforts with remarkable commitment. Over the course of the relay, they collectively ran more than 120km, arriving in The Hague and passing significant landmarks including the Peace Palace, the World Forum, and United Nations buildings. These moments underscored the purpose of the relay, connecting physical challenge with a global message of peace and cooperation.
The students’ resilience, determination, and unity have been exemplary throughout, reflecting Eric Liddell’s values of integrity and service to others. Alongside the physical achievement, the team has also been raising funds for the Personal Best Foundation, supporting initiatives that use sport as a force for positive change. We warmly encourage our community to continue supporting their fundraising efforts, with every contribution helping to extend the impact of this meaningful initiative.
This has been a truly outstanding student-led initiative, showcasing what can be achieved through dedication, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose. The school community can take great pride in their achievement and in the powerful message they have carried across Europe.
