Drama Students Attend Acclaimed Production of Oresteia
Despite it being only our first week back, we were fortunate to secure tickets for the highly anticipated and near sell-out run of Oresteia at the Bridge Theatre. Obtaining tickets for such a sought-after production was no small feat, and it proved well worth the effort.
The production is still in its early run, having opened in August to critical acclaim. Starring David Morrissey, Rosie Sheehy, Mary-Louise Parker and Tom Glynn-Carney, and written and directed by Simon Stone, this bold contemporary reimagining brings the ancient trilogy into the present day. It provided our students with a striking example of how classical texts can be reworked for a modern audience.
Based on the ancient Greek myth of the House of Atreus, our Year 12 and Year 13 Drama students enjoyed a truly memorable evening at the theatre. The production’s inventive staging, including a remarkable rotating set, added another layer of visual impact to an already powerful and emotionally charged story of family, revenge and inherited trauma.
With a running time of three hours and 40 minutes, it was a lengthy production, but there was never any danger of losing interest. A series of standout performances kept us gripped from beginning to end, while the sheer intensity of the acting left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
For anyone able to see this production, we would wholeheartedly recommend it. It offered our students a rare opportunity to experience a major classical work reinvented for today’s stage, performed by an outstanding cast at the top of their game.
