Year 7 and 8 Students Bring Henry V to Life in Ambitious Lower School Production
More than 40 students took to the stage, for this year’s Lower School production of Henry V, delivering two sold-out performances on Thursday after just five weeks of rehearsals.
Featuring a cast drawn entirely from Year 7 and Year 8, the production offered students an early opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative and collaborative life of the Drama Department. As well as introducing them to the demands of rehearsal and performance, the project encouraged students to work together towards a shared goal while balancing their academic and co-curricular commitments.
The production also served as an important introduction to the School’s vibrant co-curricular programme, helping students understand how to balance their commitments while making the most of the opportunities available to them throughout their time at Eltham.
Director of Drama Mr Marshall said: “Henry V provided an ideal introduction to Senior School drama. Shakespeare’s work carries enormous cultural significance, and by rehearsing and performing the play our Year 7 and 8 students were able to engage directly with his language, characters and themes. It is a hands-on way to develop their understanding of one of the most important writers in English literature while preparing them for the more ambitious productions they will encounter as they move through the School.”
Congratulations to all the students and crew involved for their hard work, commitment and impressive achievement in bringing Henry V to the stage.
