Black History Month 2026: Honouring Our Communities
During the final week of half term, students marked Black History Month through a programme of assemblies, workshops and interactive challenges celebrating the people whose leadership, service and creativity have helped shape communities across Britain. Reflecting this year’s national theme, Honouring Our Communities and Honouring Black Britain, the week’s programme celebrated both well-known figures and those whose contributions often go unrecognised.
Students explored the theme through sectional assemblies, creative workshops and interactive challenges. In art and design activities, they contributed to a collaborative artwork inspired by pioneering textile designer Althea McNish and created bead bracelets reflecting African cultural traditions. Music and spoken-word workshops introduced students to African rhythms and the rich heritage of Black British music, while encouraging them to develop their own creative expression.
Elsewhere, students took part in the Honouring Black Britain discovery trail, learning about individuals whose courage, service and leadership have made a lasting contribution to British life. Members of the College community also added their own backgrounds to a Cultural Heritage Map, celebrating the diversity of cultures represented across the school.
