Year 9 Geography Fieldwork: Exploring Stratford’s Olympic Park
On 1st October, our Year 9 geographers enjoyed a day trip to Stratford as part of their ‘Geography of Health’ topic, where they have been studying global, regional, and local health variations. Most recently, after exploring Transport for London’s Healthy Streets theory, the students set out to assess whether the rebranded Olympic Park area reflects the features of a “Healthy Place.”
During the trip, students collected a wide range of primary data, including questionnaires with members of the public, pedestrian counts, non-participant observation, and detailed field sketches. Covering over 13,000 steps throughout the day, they showed great enthusiasm as they explored the area.
Alongside developing their geographical skills, the trip provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to practise teamwork and communication, essential life skills beyond the classroom. The weather held out, and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces at the end of the day. A great day of Geography in action—well done, Year 9!
