Year 3 Workshop with Falconry UK

This week, our Year 3 pupils were thrilled to welcome Falconry UK for a hands-on educational workshop. Students got to meet six birds of prey, ranging from the very small to the impressively large, and including the much-loved Bailey, a famous owl who recently featured on the BBC’s Operation Ouch.

During the workshop, students enjoyed an interactive talk covering a wide range of topics from the National Curriculum, including bird anatomy, habitats, camouflage, flight and diet. The presenter shared fascinating facts about how these birds hunt, what they eat, and how they survive in the wild.

Among the birds were some truly rare and remarkable species, including two Pygmy Falcons—the only ones available for public viewing in the UK—one of which, Nico, was a young falcon just beginning his training. They were joined by a Tawny Frogmouth famed for its exceptional camouflage. Many of the birds have appeared on film sets and attended star-studded parties.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the moment students had the chance to hold and interact with the birds under expert supervision. The children showed fantastic enthusiasm and engagement throughout the session, and we are very grateful to Falconry UK for this unforgettable experience.
