Old Elthamians Share Their Architectural Journeys

Students contemplating a career in architecture had the tremendous fortune yesterday to meet with two eminent Old Elthamians, Tayo Bero and Kees van der Sande, who returned to the College to share their experiences in the field as part of our ongoing series of careers talks.

Tayo, whose artwork still hangs in our halls, shared his journey to studying architecture at university. He spoke about how the College’s Elthamentor programme, drawing on the Old Elthamian network, led to him meeting Kees, who supported him in gaining valuable work experience. Tayo also offered practical advice on choosing the right university, considering reputation, course structure, and workload.

Kees then introduced us to Formation Architects, the award-winning practice he now directs, and gave a fascinating insight into what the day-to-day life of an architect looks like.

Our thanks to both for sharing their valuable knowledge and experience with our students.
